New York based, Family owned & operated since 1951.
The Rubie’s saga began in 1951, when Rubin (or Rubie to his friends and family) Beige returned home from serving in World War II. With his $500 in army savings, he and his wife, Tillie Beige, opened a neighborhood soda shop and novelty store with the hopes of temporarily helping to support his family.
Rubie once said “nothing in this world is so permanent as a temporary solution.” By the end of the decade the Beige’s had realized the masks and costumes they offered were selling extraordinarily well and the store had been renamed “Rubie’s Fun House.”
By the 70’s, the shop had become a thriving, full-blown costume company offering high quality rentals for parties, theatrical productions and Halloween. When Rubie passed in 1972, Tillie divided the company equally among her four children and gave them an ultimatum: if they couldn’t make the business big enough to support four families, she’d sell it.
In 2017, the Rubie’s family is more than four families. Rubie’s employs over 3,000 people across the globe. In the U.S. alone, Rubie’s operates four factories and six warehouses. Three of Rubin and Tillie’s children continue to lead the company and four of Rubin and Tillie’s grandchildren hold positions at Rubie’s today, helping to shape its future.
